How to add a link in your Instagram bio
Instagram gives you one clickable link in your bio. Here is how to set it, how to get more than one destination out of that single slot, and what to check when the link refuses to appear.
Build your page — freeThe five steps
Instagram has moved this setting more than once, so if your app looks different the thing to look for is a Links row inside Edit profile rather than a URL field inside the bio text itself.
- Open your profile. Open Instagram and tap your profile picture in the bottom-right corner to reach your own profile.
- Tap Edit profile. Tap the Edit profile button directly under your bio text.
- Tap Links. Tap the Links row. On current versions of Instagram this is a separate field rather than part of the bio text.
- Add an external link. Tap Add external link, paste your URL, and optionally give it a display title so it reads as something other than the raw address.
- Save. Tap Done or the tick. The link now appears as a tappable line under your bio.
Getting more than one link out of one slot
Instagram now allows a handful of links rather than strictly one, but they render as a small stacked list with no styling, and tapping through takes an extra step. For anything more than two destinations the usual answer is a link-in-bio page: one URL in the bio that opens a page holding everything else.
That page is also the only part of this chain you control. Instagram decides how the bio renders; a link page is yours to lay out, colour and reorder, and it keeps working if the platform changes the bio field again.
Miine is a free way to make one. You claim a username, add your links, style the page, and paste the resulting URL into the Links field above.
When the link will not appear or is not clickable
Four things account for almost every case:
- The URL is in the bio TEXT rather than the Links field. Text in the bio body is not clickable — it has to go in Links.
- The URL is missing its prefix. Paste the full address including https://, not just the domain.
- The app is out of date. The Links field is relatively recent; update Instagram and reopen Edit profile.
- The account is new or recently flagged. Instagram sometimes withholds outbound links on very new accounts for a period.
If the link saves but opens a warning page, the destination has been flagged by Instagram's URL checks — which most often happens with free shortener domains rather than with an ordinary hosted page.
Making the single link worth the tap
Whatever sits behind that link is the only page most of your audience will ever see outside the feed. Two things matter more than the rest: it should load fast on a phone on mobile data, and the thing you most want people to do should be the first thing they see.
Everything else — back catalogue, archive, secondary socials — can sit below the fold. The page does not need to be a complete index of your existence.
Questions
How do I add a clickable link to my Instagram bio?
Open your profile, tap Edit profile, tap Links, tap Add external link, paste the full URL including https://, and tap Done. The link then appears as a tappable line beneath your bio text. A URL typed into the bio text itself is not clickable.
Why is my Instagram bio link not clickable?
The most common cause is that the URL was typed into the bio text rather than added in the Links field — only the Links field produces a tappable link. Other causes are a missing https:// prefix, an out-of-date app, or a very new account for which Instagram temporarily withholds outbound links.
Can I have more than one link in my Instagram bio?
Instagram allows a small number of links in the Links field, but they render as a plain stacked list. For more destinations, or for any control over how they look, point the bio at a single link-in-bio page that holds the rest.
What is the best free link in bio tool for Instagram?
Look for one that loads quickly on mobile, lets you reorder links easily, and does not put design controls behind a paid plan. Miine is free with a single tier and gives full control over fonts, colours, buttons and backgrounds.
Do I need to pay for a link in bio page?
No. Miine is free with no paid tier and no trial. Published pages carry a small Miine link in the corner.
It takes about two minutes.
