How to add a link in your TikTok bio
TikTok's bio link is gated differently from Instagram's — not every account has the field. Here is how to add it, what unlocks it, and what to do while you wait.
Build your page — freeThe steps
- Open your profile. Open TikTok and tap Profile in the bottom-right corner.
- Tap Edit profile. Tap the Edit profile button under your username.
- Find the Website field. Look for a Website row. If it is not there, your account does not yet meet TikTok's requirement for bio links.
- Enter your URL. Tap Website and enter the full address including https://.
- Save. Tap Save. The link appears under your bio as a tappable line.
If there is no Website field
This is the difference that catches people out. TikTok has historically restricted the bio website field — it has been tied at various points to follower count and to having a Business account, and the exact threshold has changed more than once.
Two things to try. First, switch to a Business account in Settings under Account, which has often exposed the field regardless of follower count. Second, check that the app is current, since the field has moved between versions.
If neither works, the usual interim is to put the URL in the bio text as plain text. It is not tappable, but a short memorable address is typeable — which is a good argument for a link-in-bio username that is easy to spell rather than a long shortener.
Why a short URL matters more on TikTok
On Instagram the fallback for a missing link is awkward but rare. On TikTok, plenty of accounts spend a long period with no clickable field at all, which means the address gets read aloud in a video, shown on screen, or typed from memory.
That changes what makes a good URL. A page at a short domain with your own handle is far easier to say and type than a long path with tracking parameters on the end.
Pointing it somewhere useful
TikTok traffic arrives fast and leaves fast. Someone tapping through from a video has a specific thing in mind — the product in the video, the full recipe, the sound, the shop — and a page that makes them hunt for it loses them.
A link page helps here specifically because it is quick to reorder: whatever is going viral this week goes to the top, and the rest can wait. Links you are not currently pushing can be switched off rather than deleted.
Questions
How do I add a link to my TikTok bio?
Open TikTok, tap Profile, tap Edit profile, then tap the Website row and enter the full URL including https://. Tap Save and the link appears under your bio. If there is no Website row, your account does not yet have access to the field.
Why can't I add a link to my TikTok bio?
TikTok restricts the bio website field. Access has been tied to follower count and to having a Business account, and the threshold has changed over time. Switching to a Business account in Settings under Account often exposes the field; otherwise, check the app is up to date.
How many followers do you need for a link in TikTok bio?
TikTok has changed this requirement more than once and does not document it consistently, so treat any specific number with caution. Switching to a Business account has commonly exposed the website field regardless of follower count.
Can I put a link in my TikTok bio text instead?
You can type a URL into the bio text, but it will not be tappable. It is a usable interim if the Website field is unavailable, which is a reason to choose a short, easily typed address.
What should my TikTok bio link point to?
Point it at a page you control that loads quickly and puts the thing from your current video first. A link-in-bio page works well here because you can reorder it in seconds as different videos take off.
It takes about two minutes.
